Mashhad is known as the spiritual capital of the Islamic world. This metropolis is located in the northeastern part of the country and in Razavi Khorasan province. The area of holy Mashhad is about 351 square kilometers, which is the second largest city in Iran after Tehran. Also, this city with a population of 300,1190 is considered the second most populated city in the country. The presence of Razavi holy shrine and the sights of Mashhad has made travelers more welcome to visit this city. According to the latest statistics, about 27 million people travel to Mashhad every year, which is a significant figure. Since the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (AS) is located in the center of the city, four main streets lead to this holy place; Shirazi Street is connected to the western part and Nawab Safavi Street to the eastern part of Holy Shrine. Also, Tabarsi Street is in the north and Imam Reza Street is in the south of Astan Quds Razavi.
Entering Imam Reza Street and seeing the light shrine of the 8th Imam (AS), your heart will go to the shrine. This seemingly old street of Mashhad was called Tehran Street in the past and the reason for this name was the access to the road from Tehran to Mashhad through it. Most urban engineers believe that with the beginning of Reza Khan's rule, the old structure of Mashhad underwent many changes and advanced structures were created in the city. It was during this period that Tabarsi, Imam Reza and Bahar streets were created for the first time in Mashhad. Also, Reza Khan founded the Imam Reza (AS) hospital in Mashhad in 1313 AH. Two years later, i.e. in 1315 AH, the first electrical factory was opened in Tabarsi Street and the ground for the entry of various machines into the transportation system was created.
