Israel has pummelled Gaza with airstrikes, killing more than 1,500 Palestinians, and has announced a siege of the strip in retaliation to a deadly attack by Hamas militants who breached the border fence between Israel and the Gaza Strip on 7 October.

Water, electricity and food supplies have been cut off from the 2.5 million civilians who live in Gaza. The war has already claimed at least 2,600 lives.
