A recent demonstration of the firepower of India’s Akash surface-to-air (SAM) weapon system is being pitched as a global first. The Akash missile system engaged four aerial targets simultaneously at a range of 25 km during India’s Air Force exercise Astrashakti-2023 on Dec 12. India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said this was the first time 4 aerial targets were engaged simultaneously at these ranges by a single firing unit. Armenia is most likely amping up its defence capabilities with the Indian-built surface-to-air missile (SAM) Akash.
