In January 2020, Quds Force Commander Qasem Soleimani was killed by a Reaper drone strike. In a statement he made recently, then-US President Trump said that the Iranians called him after this attack and said, "We will attack your base, but don't worry, your soldiers will not be harmed."
No US soldiers were killed in the missile attacks that took place shortly after Soleimani's death, and they remained safe in the base's bunkers. After this date, we started to bring Iran to the agenda more frequently with embargoes, wars in different countries, protests within the country and ongoing nuclear weapons stories.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard was founded by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini on May 5, 1979, in the early days of the revolution. According to the Iranian Constitution, they are responsible for ensuring internal order, protecting the revolution and preventing 'deviant movements'. Over time, they became one of Iran's most influential forces in the military, political and economic fields.
Although the Revolutionary Guards have fewer soldiers than the size of the official army, they maintain their position as the most effective military force in the country. According to Khomeini, it is believed that the Revolutionary Guard should always have a strong presence, as the Iranian Army cannot protect the revolution.
Iran is aware that it cannot prevail against advanced Western powers such as the USA. This reality led them to focus on three core competencies. These capabilities include ballistic missiles that can attack targets in the region, coast guard units that can threaten shipping in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, and joint and proxy forces that can conduct unconventional operations outside the country.
