On Saturday, February 25, 2023, members of the Toronto Police Service once again participated in the Annual Polar Plunge in support of Special Olympics Ontario.
Chief Myron Demkiw and members of TPS were joined by other police services, law enforcement partners, Toronto Fire & Paramedic Services, as well as members of the public and athletes from the Special Olympics, as they took the plunge into frigid Lake Ontario at Budapest Park, with Toronto temperatures at -6c, and -11c with the wind chill.
As supporters of the Special Olympics for over 30 years, and as original organizers and participants in the Law Enforcement Torch Run, the Polar Plunge is a much loved fundraising activity for the Toronto Police Service family. Service members and their families, friends, and community members were be delighted to take the first in-person plunge since 2019, with the Polar Plunge being held virtually during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
