The California Highway Patrol wrapped up its holiday maximum enforcement for the New Year’s Eve holiday and the numbers are not encouraging. During maximum enforcement, CHP sends out as many officers as they can to scan the roads for speeders, distracted drivers and drivers who get behind the wheel while impaired. This year, CHP made 892 DUI arrests statewide, which was 300 more than last year. They also responded to 24 fatal crashes. Last year, there were 14.
