Representatives with the Seattle Rideshare Drivers Association confirmed that a local Uber driver was the man shot and killed by an unknown pedestrian on Wednesday night.
Witnesses told police a suspect was on foot and fired at least seven shots. The victim, 31-year-old Abdulkadir Shariff Gedi from SeaTac, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition and later died, according to police.
According to the Seattle Rideshare Drivers Association, Gedi was likely wrapping up a fare when the shooting happened.
Gedi's fellow drivers said he worked in the rideshare business for a decade, since immigrating from Somalia. They told KOMO he supported his older parents and was the breadwinner of the family. They added that he was trying to live the American dream.
