On July 25, 2022, Peabody staff opened a time capsule that had been placed in the cornerstone of the historic Museum building on June 18, 1923. It contained a number of photographs and documents, including copies of the institution's founding letters and images of the original Peabody that stood on the corner of High and Elm streets in New Haven and was demolished in 1917.
