Sky News host Caroline Di Russo expressed her sorrow for Queen Mary of Denmark’s father, John Dalgleish Donaldson, after missing out on attending her ascension to the throne.
“I really do feel for her father,” Ms Di Russo said.
The 82-year-old did not attend the royal ceremony due to being too old to fly the long trip from Australia to Europe but has told palace media he would be watching very proudly from Hobart.
Mary became the first Australian woman to head a European royal family after her mother-in-law, Queen Margarethe, abdicated the throne on New Year’s Eve.
“Her sister Jane is there, she’s very, very, close to her sister – which is absolutely fabulous,” she said.
“Unfortunately, Mary as we all know, she lost her mum when she was in her 20s.”
