1. Name
The Surah takes its name from the sentence Dhalika yaum-ut taghabun of verse 9, thereby implying that it is the Surah in which the word at taghabun has occurred.
2. Period of Revelation
Muqatil and Kalbi say that it was partly revealed at Makkah and partly at Madinah. Hadrat Abdullah bin Abbas and Ata bin Yasar say that vv. 1-13 were revealed at Makkah and vv. 14-18 at Madinah. But the majority of commentators regard the whole of the surah as a Madinan Revelation. Although there is no internal evidence to help determine its exact period of revelation, yet a study of its subject matter shows that it might probably have been sent down at an early stage at Madinah. That is why it partly resembles the Makkah surahs and partly the Madinan Surahs.
3. Theme and Subject Matter
The theme of this surah is invitation to the Faith and obedience (to Allah) and the teaching of good morals. The sequence followed is that the first four verses are addressed to all men; verses 5-10 to those men, who do not believe in the invitation of the Qur'an; and verses 11-18 to those who accept and believe in this invitation.
In the verses addressed to all men, they have been made aware in a few brief sentences of the four fundamental truths:
4. First, that the universe in which they live is not Godless, but its Creator, Master and Ruler is an All Powerful God, and everything in it testifies to His being most Perfect and absolutely faultless.
5. Second, that the universe is not without purpose and wisdom, but its Creator has created it with truth no one should be under the delusion that it is a mock show, which began without a purpose and will come to an end without a purpose.
6. Third, that the excellent form that God has created you with and the choice that He has given you to choose between belief and unbelief is not a useless and meaningless activity so that it may be of no consequence whether you choose belief or unbelief. In fact, God is watching as to how you exercise your choice.
➽ 64.সূরা আত-তাগাবুন, At- Taghabun, سورة التغابن সম্পর্কে পটভুমি:
1. নামকরণ
সূরার ৯নং আয়াতে (التَّغَابُنِ) কথাটির (التَّغَابُنِ) শব্দটিকে নাম হিসেবে গ্রহণ করা হয়েছে । অর্থাৎ এটি সেই সূরা যার মধ্যে (التَّغَابُنِ) শব্দটি আছে ।
2. ভূমিকা : এইটি মদিনাতে অবতীর্ণ সূরার শ্রেণীর অষ্টম সূরা। শ্রেণীর প্রতিটি সূরা সমাজের জীবন ব্যবস্থার বিভিন্ন দিক আলোচনা করেছে।
3. নাযিল হওয়ার সময় -কাল
মুকাতিল এবং কালবী বলেন, সূরাটির কিছু অংশ মক্কায় এবং কিছু অংশ মদীনায় অবতীর্ণ । হযরত আবদুল্লাহ ইবনে আব্বাস এবং আতা ইবনে ইয়াসির বলেনঃ প্রথম থেকে ১৩ আয়াত পর্যন্ত মক্কায় অবতীর্ণ এবং ১৪ আয়াত থেকে শেষ পর্যন্ত মদীনায় অবতীর্ণ । কিন্তু অধিকাংশ মুফাসিস্সিরের মতে সম্পূর্ণ সূরাটি মদীনায় অবতীর্ণ । যদিও সূরার মধ্যে এমন কোন ইশারা -ইংগীত পাওয়া যায় না । যার ভিত্তিতে এর নাযিল হওয়ার সময়-কাল নির্দিষ্ট করা যেতে পারে । তবে এর বিষয়বস্তু নিয়ে চিন্তা-ভাবনা করলে অনুমতি হয় যে, সম্ভবত সূরাটি মাদানী যুগের প্রথমদিকে নাযিল হয়ে থাকবে । এ কারণে সূরাটিতে কিছুটা মক্কী সূরার বৈশিষ্ট এবং কিছুটা মাদানী সূরার বৈশিষ্ট পরিলক্ষিত হয় ।
4. বিষয়বস্তু ও মূল বক্তব্য
এ সূরার বিষয়বস্তু হচ্ছে ঈমান ও আনুগত্যের দাওয়াত এবং উত্তম নৈতিক চরিত্রের শিক্ষা দেয়া । বক্তব্যের ধারাক্রম হচ্ছেঃ প্রথম চার আয়াতে গোটা মানব জাতিকে সম্বোধন করা হয়েছে । ৫ থেকে ১০ আয়াতে যারা কুরেআনের দাওয়াত মানে না তাদেরকে সম্বোধন করা হয়েছে এবং যারা কুরআনের এ দাওয়াতকে মেনে নিয়েছে ১১ আয়াত থেকে সুরার শেষ পর্যন্ত আয়াতগুলোতে তাদেরকে সম্বোধন করে কথা বলা হয়েছে । কয়েকটি সংক্ষিপ্ত বাক্য দ্বারা গোটা মানব জাতিকে সম্বোধন করে চারটি মূল সত্য সম্পর্কে অবহিত করা হয়েছে
